M’Boundi is a Democratic Republic of Congo oil field some 55 km inland from the coast and uses seawater pumped into its wells to improve recovery rates and prolong the life of the field. To achieve this, a new 24″ (600 mm) diameter pipeline was constructed to pump seawater from the coast to the oil field. To ensure that the steel pipeline has a significant economic lifespan, a polymer liner was installed. Developed to enable reeled pipelines to be PE lined and fully welded, the WeldLink™ connector is the most used connector in high pressure polymer lined pipeline applications, having successfully being used in both onshore and offshore applications. The reliability of the compression seal has proved itself in the most arduous of circumstances.
QAWT was commissioned to supply 346 WeldLinks™ with associated equipment. The Project commenced in April 2009 and was completed and dispatched by November 2009. Total order value was almost £4,000,000.
